In 2026, following a leadership transition, Covenant High School adopted a co-leadership model. As part of this reorganization, the Dean of Students and the Academic Dean were promoted to serve as Co-Leaders of Covenant High School.

ANDRÉ ADAMS
PRINCIPAL, COVENANT HIGH SCHOOL GRAND RAPIDS
Andre Adams serves as Principal of Covenant High School and is committed to creating a school culture where every student feels valued, supported, and capable of achieving their goals. A Detroit native, Mr. Adams understands many of the challenges students face because he experienced them himself while growing up. Those experiences shaped his passion for serving students, investing in the community, and helping young people recognize their strengths and potential.
Mr. Adams brings more than a decade of experience in education and student support. His journey began as a paraprofessional, where he developed a strong foundation in supporting student learning, building relationships, and understanding the important work educators do every day. Throughout his career, he has served as an attendance officer, student service coordinator, dean of students, and principal.
He earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, and holds a Michigan School Administrator/Principal Certification. Mr. Adams is dedicated to partnering with students, families, staff, and the community to build a safe, welcoming environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. Outside of school, he is a husband, father of five, grandfather of eight, and a man of faith whose relationship with God guides his commitment to serving others.
DR. WAYNE RUMAN JR.
DEAN, COVENANT HIGH SCHOOL GRAND RAPIDS
Dr. Ruman earned his Bachelor's (1984) and Master's (1988) degrees from Bowling Green State University before completing his Doctorate at the University of Akron in 2004. During a 35-year career in education, he served as both a band director and school administrator in rural, suburban, and urban school districts across Ohio. His passion has always been helping students reach their full potential while supporting teachers in creating engaging, high-quality learning experiences.
After relocating to West Michigan with his wife in 2021 to be closer to their growing family, Dr. Ruman discovered Michigan's charter school system and was inspired by Covenant High School's mission. He joined the Covenant team in March 2024, where he is committed to helping students achieve academic success and preparing them for meaningful futures. He and his wife, who met at Bowling Green State University and have been married since 1983, enjoy spending time with their daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren in the Grand Rapids area, while also staying connected with their other daughter in Washington State.
Believing that strong relationships, high expectations, and a caring school community are the foundation of student success, Dr. Ruman is grateful to be part of the Covenant team. He values partnering with students, families, and colleagues to create opportunities for growth and is dedicated to helping every student build the confidence, skills, and character needed for success beyond high school.
